#T5W TOP 5 WEDNESDAY REWIND: (Nov. 2017) Books I’m Thankful For

For those who don’t know what Top 5 Wednesday is, it’s a weekly book group about our top five favorite things in the middle of the week.

Created by Lainey from GingerReadsLainey and now hosted by Samantha from ThoughtsonTomes, this week’s entry describes our top 5 favorite fandom items.

Sam is having a busy personal month, so instead of creating new topics, she gave participants a chance to catch up on previous T5W’s we missed out on.

As many of you know, April and May have been extremely busy months for me. So much so that I haven’t even been able to devote the time to reading, books, T5W, etc like I usually do. As such, and as suggested by quite a few people on twitter, this month is going to be Top 5 Wednesday Rewind Month! Have some topics you missed or that happened before you joined the Top 5 Wednesday family? Now is the time to do them!

Pick whichever topics you want each week and be sure to label your posts Top 5 Wednesday (or T5W) Rewind so everyone can find them.

This week is a throwback to November 2017’s prompt: Books I’m Thankful For.

November 22nd: Books You’re Thankful For –For whatever reason, big or small.

5. Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman –  I’ve only read Starfish once, but I can already tell that I’m very thankful for a book that describes anxiety, insecurity, living with a difficult family member, falling in love and being a WOC (woman of color) so well. I’ll have to do a reread soon, in fact!

4. The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon –  I didn’t love this book, but I did feel appreciative of the fact that the female main character Natasha has a Jamaican heritage, like me. So it felt like I can relate to her personally, being someone who has Jamaican immigrant parents. I’m grateful that there are more books that accurately describe the Jamaican diaspora in YA.

3. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green –  I haven’t read TFIOS in awhile, but I am grateful for a romance contemporary that doesn’t use cancer as a crutch or plot device for something better. Cancer was obviously involved, but it was treated as a snide joke than a plot device.

2. Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer –  Twilight can be bashed up and down all day, I don’t care! I still love and appreciate it for giving me more access to YA reading. Even the story itself is different, in terms of fantasy and falling for someone who may be different than you. And they’re not perfect, but you still love them no matter what. Plus, it gave me two of my top favorite actors: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson!

1. Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling –  Potter will always be there for me in general. It got me into reading a genre that I didn’t normally latch onto, with witches, wizards, magic, fantasy. But it also showed me the power of friendship, bravery, loyalty, and family. And that’s something I can always be grateful for.

Which books are you thankful for? Leave comments below!
