A Change in Direction // HIATUS ANNOUNCEMENT

I’ve thought of millions of ways to write this post, but then I’d decided to just say screw it and come out and say it.

And before you ask, no I’m not leaving. More like taking a break to regroup.

I think I’ve known for a while that I needed to make some changes to this blog. It’s not that I don’t love writing about books, characters, and bookish things. It’s that it’s not all that I am anymore. I’m more interested in talking about other things like music, movies, TV shows (even though I’m bad at watching them and keeping up with them). I like discovering new music from my favorite artists and bands. I’m also into some K-pop and BTS is my favorite new obsession!

Giving you guys updates on my life is another thing I want to do more on here. When I’d talked about my first date last month and how nervous I was, there were so many supportive comments and messages. I didn’t think readers would care about my personal life, because I didn’t showcase it. I don’t have much of one to begin with, but the fact that you guys were so sweet and happy for me blew my mind! I don’t usually discuss my personal life outside of my own private circle because I do have people I want to protect. But at the same time, after 5 years of blogging, I still don’t think you guys know me. I don’t want to be another pretty face on the blogosphere that you follow from time to time. I want to know you guys and your life as much as you know me.

I also want to include discussions on social issues, especially intersectional social issues, like feminism, women’s issues, LGBTQIA issues, black women’s rights, mental health. I’m very pro-mental health; I believe fully in taking care of yourself and doing whatever you need to do to provide for yourself. I have bad anxiety and moments where if I know I’m going through something, it’ll show in my face, the way I carry myself. Hell, it’ll show in my skincare when I breakout (that’s a little too much information but we’re fam so it’s ok!). But yeah, I want to talk more about how I deal with those issues so I can somehow heal both myself and someone else who may catch wind of this blog too.

This is not to say I’m completely abandoning talking about books and bookish things. I’ll still find ways to incorporate books into my blog; it won’t be as prominent as before, along with other topics I’m passionate about. I just don’t want to be stuck in a box anymore.

So I’ll be taking some time off to regroup and change some things around. Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon so you can see the new look!
