ONE-SENTENCE REVIEWS // #QUARANTINE PART 1

*me editing*: This was written when my homestate New Jersey was under a stay-at-home lockdown order, back in April-July 2020. As of August 2020, the stay-at-home order has been lifted, and I’m back to work, as well as reading whenever I can.

Since I’m still under quarantine/lockdown in my state of NJ for God-only-knows-how-long, here’s a summary of the books I’ve read, finished, or DNF-ed throughout my stay in.

April 2020

Title: American Panda by Gloria Chao (OWLS 2020)
Dates Read: April 11-23, 2020
One-Sentence Review: Very sweet, very funny, heartwarming. The blend of Chinese and American cultures, and realizing your true identity are important themes for young people to understand.
Rating: 4 stars

Title: Children of Blood & Bone by Tomi Adeyemi (OWLS 2020)- REVIEW
Dates Read: June 14-April 2020
One-Sentence Review: In my Lady Gaga voice – “talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it.!” period!
Rating: 4 stars

Title: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid (OWLS 2020) – REVIEW
Dates Read: April 23 – May 14, 2020
One-Sentence Review: The best, the worst, most dramatic dive into Classic Hollywood. This book made me laugh, cry in buckets of tears, wish that Evelyn Hugo was alive, but I also wanted to be her. Her life story is both glamourous and classic and elegant but also ruined in tragedy, heartbreak, and the power of loving one person for your entire life. Obviously, this is more than a sentence review, but it’s necessary, given that it’s Evelyn Hugo
Rating: 5 stars – isn’t it obvious?!
