Prompt Title: The Befana comes by night
Explanation: During January Italian kids usually get visited by the Befana. (an old woman who flies on a broom; honestly no idea why we just don’t say she’s a witch). Inside socks made for the occasion, she leaves sweets for the good kids and a piece of coal for the bad kids. This time you will be the Befana and your role is to distribute books. Which books would you gift to good people and which one you will use as punishment?
I love how Camila is Italian af and has every opportunity to express her culture unapologetically! It’s beautiful! Anyway…onto my prompt response.
As this fabulous Befana, I would offer books like The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli, Shadowshaper by Daniel Jose Older, Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, How to be a Bawse by Lilly Singh for the good kids; this collection are books that the good little boys and girls (if they’re old enough!) to check out for their good behavior.
As for the bad ass kids, they would get nothing but coal (if such a thing exists in Italy?) because no badass child deserves anything better until they learn how to behave and learn.
