For those who don’t know what Top 5 Wednesday is, it’s a weekly book group about our top five favorite things in the middle of the week.
Favorite Romance Novels — Romance as a genre is very under-appreciated in lots of circles. So recommend your favorite romance books. These are books where romance is the main genre, not a secondary one.
I know a lot of these books aren’t just romance, but the genre has a similar alignment with the overlying plot of the story.
5. ROOM by Emma Donaghue – This book doesn’t have a romance between the mother and son, obviously, but the connection between Ma and Jack is incredibly close. They both need each other to survive this hellhole they’ve gotten themselves into, and they never give up on each other.
4. Books, Blogs & Reality by Ryan Ringbloom – This is mostly based around friendship around the internet, but there are a couple of individual romances between the female characters and their romantic partners.
3. Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare – The most epic of all tragedies!! I’m not a huge Shakespeare fan, but I know that when it comes to romance, R&J are at the top of my list.
2. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green – Another book that has the potential to be a classic! Not only does it deal with cancer on a personal level, but the romance between Hazel and Augustus is so sweet; the way they go from strangers to friends to in love is so natural.
1. Discovering April by Sheena Hutchinson – I know I talk about this book a whole lot, but the romance is one of the reasons why. The way April and Jared were friends growing up, grew apart after his parents died, then grew back together as a couple. Their progression was really natural as individuals, which helped them grow together.
