Top Ten Tuesday #1: ‘Authors I’m Thankful For’ Featuring J.K. Rowling, Tonya Kuper & More

Hosted by brokeandbookish.com, Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created because they are particularly fond of lists. This week’s theme is Thanksgiving-specialized, so here’s my list of the top 10 authors I’m thankful for.

10. John Green (The Fault in Our Stars)
The first time I read TFIOS, it brought me to tears! I loved the relationship between Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters, and that they lifted each other up and helped each other, even though they both had cancer. Like Shailene Woodley (who played Hazel in the movie) said, “It’s a cancer story that’s not about cancer.”

9. Sheena Hutchinson (Discovering April)
I loved the friendship-turned-relationship between April and Jared. I found it thoughtful that he did whatever he could to make her happy and find herself again after a nasty breakup, only to be together after an estranged friendship. Sheena’s writing was simple, and I find myself re-reading my favorite parts over again.

8. Lisa Genova (Still Alice)
I wrote a full review of the book a year ago, but I’m thankful for this book because it showed the stigmas of Alzheimer’s Disease and how it affects family. Also, I’m thankful for the awareness the movie brought towards Alzheimer’s itself.

7. Veronica Roth (Divergent)
I’m thankful for Veronica writing a dystopian novel, but the setting of how each person was separated into factions based on their character traits was interesting to read about.

6. Cassandra Clare (Mortal Instruments)
Even though I still haven’t read the last book, City of Heavenly Fire, but I am thankful for Cassie Clare for writing such an interesting, intricate novel series about the war of demons versus angels.

5. Becca Fitzpatrick (Hush Hush)
I’m thankful for Becca’s novel because it brought me and my younger niece together for the love of angels. She’s not that big of a reader, but when we read the first two books, Hush Hush and Crescendo, we absolutely loved it and bonded over it.

4. Stephenie Meyer (Twilight series)
I’m very thankful for Stephenie because her novels were the first YA series I read as a teen. Edward and Bella’s love and respect for each other really drew me in for 5 long years, and I’m grateful that the series made so many others want to read.

3. Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games series)
I saw the movie last night, and I’m still teary-eyed at how there aren’t anymore movies left; this is it— the end of an era. The end of the second YA book-turned-movie series that I’ve grown up with. I’m so grateful for the first two books The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, even Mockingjay, the last one even though it wasn’t my favorite.

2. Tonya Kuper (Anomaly)
I’m so grateful for Tonya and her comedic take on a scientific debut novel. Josie and Reid have amazing chemistry, and I can’t wait to read the sequel, Enigma, coming next fall. Tonya also helped me take off this blog because she was the first indie author that really helped me carry the blog off. We’d met through my review of Anomaly, and we’ve been chatting ever since. So I’m really grateful to know her books and her presence as an author in my book-blogger life. Read my review on the book here.

1. J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter series)
I talk about this series so many times in and out of the book community, that it’s not surprise that it’s number one on my list. Harry Potter took me to another world full of frienship, bravery, love, hope and truth. I’ll always love this series!
