#Quarantunes and Books // Let’s Discuss Our Favorite Artists and Stories!

I know this is a bit of a tough time for the world right now, so I don’t want to talk about the Big ‘Rona today. this week, I want to discuss our favorite books and the music that goes along with them.

Briana from Pages Unbound asked: Are there any books that remind you of songs? Or songs that remind you of books?


CHVRCHES – “Heaven/Hell” – They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
I haven’t read this book, but the cynicism of the title and summary have made me think of CHVRCHES’ songwriting in this song.

TXT – “9 and Three Quarters (Run Away) – Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling
BTS’ labelmates (and baby brothers) TXT have this song called “Run Away”. The lyrics are very childlike, but becoming more aware as the boys get older and still dream. This may be an obvious choice, but since the boys of Tomorrow x Together are fans of Potter, I thought it was appropriate. 

 
BTS – “Trivia 轉: Seesaw – Pride by Ibi Zoboi
I know that Zuri and Darius Darcy got together at the end of Pride, but their romantic journey was very up-and-down. The way they went back and forth, from hating each other to being in love by the end, was the exact trajectory of BTS’ “Seesaw”. Although, “Seesaw” is more about being frustrated with the way a weird relationship is going, and whether or not you want to end it or keep going.



Troye Sivan – “Bloom” and “Plum” – Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
Both “Bloom” and “Plum” are gay anthems in general, but I thought they would be perfect while I was reading Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. Of course, “Bloom” is about bottoming, so that may only be approriate for that time, but it still works for those steamy sex scenes! 

“Plum” is more of a melancholic tune because it’s about a relationship that you know isn’t going to last long. I think this song depicts Alex’s thoughts when he was unsure of what he’d thought of Prince Henry during the middle of the book. At times, I thought maybe they wouldn’t end up together because Alex and Henry kept dodging and missing each other like crazy. But they made it work, which made me very happy!

 

Halsey – “Graveyard” – Tweet Cute by Emma Lord
Another song about wanting a relationship to last forever, even if you know it won’t. Both Pepper and Jack emphasize their questioning feelings about each other throughout Tweet Cute. They have a habit of ignoring being uncertain about each other, but find comfort in using an anonymous chat app Jack built. Halsey has a creative way within her songwriting, how self-aware and romantic she is. And that’s exactly how both Pepper and Jack feel towards each other, both together and apart.
