Polar Express Discussion Post // BOOKENDING WINTER 2019 DAY 9

Hey guys! I’m back for my first hosting day of Bookending Winter 2019 from December 9-11. If this is your first time hearing about this lovely event, go to my official post HERE.

My first prompt is:

Monday 9th December

Prompt Title: Polar Express Discussion Post

Prompt Explanation: I love watching The Polar Express movie during Christmas time. The main character boy rediscovers his love for Santa Claus and the holiday after a wild journey far from home in one night. Describe a book or experience you’ve had this year that made you rediscover your love for the genre after reading it.

Either Tweet Cute by Emma Lord, or Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston have changed the way I thought about YA contemporary novels.

Even though Tweet Cute is by far the most overdramatic, silliest, high school setup based on the Twitter feud between two food establishments, there is a sense of charm between the two main characters that make the book most worthwhile.

RWRB on another note is probably the most endearing, charming, funny, sweet connection between two young men of the LGBT community. Prince Henry is gay and First Son Alex is Latino bisexual, and both of them went from hating each other, slowly became friends, then more than friends. I read most enemies-to-lovers tropes before RWRB but they were never on the same wavelength as this one that was the most genuine and funny at the same time. It definitely changed how I felt about LGBT YA contemporary reads.
