#T5W TOP 5 WEDNESDAY: Books for my Younger Self

For those who don’t know what Top 5 Wednesday is, it’s a weekly book group about our top five favorite things in the middle of the week.

Created by Lainey from GingerReadsLainey and now hosted by Samantha from ThoughtsonTomes, this week’s entry describes our top 5 books for my younger self.

This week’s topic: Books for my Younger Self

September 12th: Books For My Younger Self— This was recommended as a topic on twitter and I love it! Books that you wish your younger self would have read to learn a life lesson, get more self confidence, open your eyes to a new perspective, etc.
4. Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman – I know I talk about this book non-stop, but I feel like it’s too important for my younger self, especially my high-school self, to read. I would heavily relate to Kiko, the female main character who deals with severe social anxiety.

3. How to Be a Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life by Lilly Singh – I started watching YouTube videos when I was in high school, so this book would be helpful in learning how to take control of my life, especially if it’s coming from one of my favorite Youtubers.

2. Discovering April by Sheena Hutchinson – I would have to read this book towards the end of my high school years, like senior year, because of the suggestive sex scenes and such. However, the story in general would have helped my young self realize there’s more than one way to achieve something.

1. The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon – Coming from a Jamaican/Caribbean family background, I never really gave it a chance to influence my childhood growing up. I’d always put it in the backburner and lived in the American lifestyle. However, now I realize that it would have been nice to accept that side of my culture if I had read it in a book like TSIAAS. It would have comforted me into learning more about Jamaica and the rich culture it is.

What are some books that you would have your younger self read? Comment below!
