For my subscribers/usual readers: I know this isn’t my normal, regularly scheduled book blog post, but things are being pushed back for this assignment I’m doing for school. I’m a Communications major and for my Journalism class, I have to make a blog post about the story of Tracee Ellis Ross, star of ABC’s Black-ish, and her cast — Anthony Anderson, Yara Shahidi, Marcus Scribner, Miles Brown and Marsai Martin — at the 2017 Step Up’s Inspiration Awards in Los Angeles.

This first post specifies a comparison between the mentioned entertainment story, and a hard news story. The hard news story was posted by The New York Times, What to Expect as U.S. Leaves Paris Climate Accord, about the aftermath of President Donald Trump’s decision to pull the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement.

Hard News Story: What to Expect as U.S. Leaves Paris Climate Accord – New York Times

Two mediums chosen for this story are as written content as it is, and video format. Written content format would be useful for readers who would want a full explanation about the event. Brad Plumer, a climate reporter for the New York Times, wrote:

[block quote on Blogger] “The Paris climate deal was meant to provide a structure to ratchet up those efforts over time. Now, the world’s largest economy has clearly stated that it wants no part of that process.”

A written format with more information could help readers understand the messages behind the story, also share their theories with others online. A video format could additionally assist for those who are visual learners and need to see graphics about the subject matter. The video could be shared easily for more visual learners to discover the cause and effect of the United States resigning from the Paris Climate Change agreement.

Entertainment News Story: Tracee Ellis Ross Speaks Words of Wisdom to Young Women at Step Up’s Inspiration Awards – The Hollywood Reporter

Two mediums for this story that could work for this story are the use of photo gallery and video.

The original article only offers what Ross had said in text:

“We are honored to work on a show that is a part of reshaping the perception of how we see women in the context of humanity. … In life we know that our worth is not defined in relationship to something else. We are valuable and powerful and entertaining because we are.”

A momentous occasion such as this should be seen on video, to see Ross and Anderson’s reactions, and the audience’s response. Additionally, photos of the event could give readers a reason to tune into the show for upcoming years. They could see a featured photo gallery of the event, watch the video, and share it online.

“We wanted part of the movement to connect women and teens and help them see each other, hear each other, inspire and encourage each other,” said Margaret Coady, executive director of the Coach Foundation, which pledged $3 million to the organization over the next three years.
