I’m still super sick with a cold/seasonal allergies, so some of my entries for this post may seem like they have been written by someone with no sense! But here we are lol. Enjoy this week’s T5W:
April 18: Ideal Mash-Ups— You know those comp titles they list in synopses that read something like “perfect for fans of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones”! What would be some of your favorite mash ups, that would make you pick up a book? “A mix of ________ and ___________.” Remember, you can also incorporate games, tv, movies, etc. Get creative!
5. Anomaly by Tonya Kuper MEETS Ignite the Shadows by Ingrid Seymour – I talk about these two books so damn much, that a tagline like this would make me buy, not borrow but buy, the book it came with.
4. Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman MEETS The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon – They both have diverse characters, speak on mental illness, dreamer characters and the infamous friends-to-lovers trope that many readers are drawn to.
3. Sing for Me by Gracie Madison MEETS Extinguish by JM Darhower – They both deal with the Heaven/Hell aspect, as well as forbidden love and royalty. It’s a bit of a dated subgenre, but I’d read a book like it.
2. Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare MEETS Running in the Dark by Inger Iversen – This might be a little hard, given that both books are different in terms of audience level, but they both have fantasy and spywork in their stories. So there is a storyline there.
1. The Hate U Give MEETS I’m Judging You by Luvvie Ajayi – Granted, I’ve never read I’m Judging You, but I love Luvvie’s writing as a blogger. I’m halfway done with THUG, and some of the comedy lines remind me of Luvvie’s snappy comebacks and one-liners. Also, the social justice for black people overall is applied to both books. A book that combines both comedy and the Black Lives Matter movement could move mountains.
