Formerly hosted by Jamie, Jana and Lauren of BrokeandBookish.com, Top Ten Tuesdays is a weekly book meme that presents top ten lists on Tuesdays that promotes favorite bookish themes. Since BrokeandBookish.com had officially shut down in January 2018, Jana from ThatArtsyReaderGirl has offered to continue the series on her blog.
I assign each Tuesday a topic and then post my top ten list that fits that topic. You’re more than welcome to join me and create your own top ten (or 2, 5, 20, etc.) list as well. Feel free to put a unique spin on the topic to make it work for you! Please link back to That Artsy Reader Girl in your own post so that others know where to find more information.
This week’s topic is a freebie, so I chose to use Jamie’s topic, Favorite Mean Girls. Keep in mind that these characters aren’t really mean, but more like shady and know how to make snappy comebacks!
Madeline from Big Little Lies – I’ve only seen the mini-series on HBO and never read the book, but from what I remember, Madeline (played by Reese Witherspoon) was so snippy to her girlfriends and always had a snappy comeback. She wasn’t necessarily mean, but her attitude came across as so shady, which Reese brought out amazingly.
Isabelle Lightwood from Mortal Instruments – When I first read TMI, I did not like Izzy at all. I thought she was snobby and selfish and thought she was all that. But later on, when her complicated layers were stripped (by both Alec and Simon), I began to like her more and root for her.
Natasha from The Sun is Also a Star – I also wasn’t sure I would like Natasha either. I thought she had a very rigid way of thinking, and she didn’t know how to put herself in another person’s shoes. She was also pretty self-centered with Daniel. But when I got to know her through her parents and sat with her frustrations in the book, I began to feel compassionate for her.
Today’s a short post today because I couldn’t think of many “mean” girls I’ve read so far. 😆
