In case you haven’t heard, my best friend Angela has launched our new Patreon page for her publishing startup, DnA Publishing Group.
DnA Publishing Group encourages black women to share their stories of upliftment, courage, and strength across a wide variety of genres. Our goal is to give voices to marginalized communities.
In order to make this dream happen, she needs your help! Join the community to change publishing forever!
The Story
DnA Publishing Group was initially started by Danielle Pitter and Angela Fraser to broaden the diversity in the publishing field and authentically represent black women. Since Danielle’s departure in 2020, Angela still uses the DNA platform to create a space for black female writers. She aims to encourage more black female writers and publishers of diverse backgrounds, while also uplifting the black community at large through an emphasis on knowledge, creativity, and the power of the written language. Angela believes that as direct descendants of the original people on Earth, who have paved the way in all there is to accomplish, it is in our power, or our DNA, to also accomplish anything we desire, and we hope to share that message with the rest of the black community.
In my own words, we had started this group, this startup to make black female writers to feel not only seen but heard and welcomed in an industry that does its best to ignore or avoid needed conversations. As both a book blogger and a fan, I have some experience working within the publishing world when I had my internship with Entangled Publishing in 2018. However, it’s somewhat alarming but not surprising how there aren’t many genuine pushes for diversity from publishers. So why not create our own?
Angela brought this idea to me in 2019 and we’d been crafting and building this company, until my departure in 2020. We had never built a business from the ground-up before, and it was very much like a ‘learn as you go’ process. We’d been taking online business classes, talking to marketing professionals and things like that, so I’m happy things are finally coming along for her. After 2020, Angela decided to take full reign of the company without me. I never want to stand in the way of anyone’s ambitions, so I agreed to let her take over. I’m glad to have had the experience, and I learned a lot, but I knew it was time for me to move forward. Still, it’s a great company with much potential, so check out her page!
