Patreon’s Choice #2: Self-Acceptance Takes Time

After a year-long hiatus, Patreon’s Choice returns with a new topic about self-acceptance. This is a topic chosen by my Patreon supporter Fara Joseph. Thanks for the topic!

One thing about self-acceptance

Is that it takes time.

It’s not a quick fix,

Or an overly positive thing.

It’s not even a moment where you suddenly see yourself

As you always have been.

It’s about looking yourself in the mirror,

Turning on all of the lights,

So you can see every pore,

Every scar, tear from your skin,

The bags under your eyes

From all of the sleepless nights,

Wishing on a star or hope that someday you’ll change.

Self-acceptance is knowing that every day a human looks in that mirror,

They find one good thing about themselves,

That one thing that others may have made fun of,

Bullied, strangled, torn apart.

Whether it was from themself or from others.

The human learns to take what others have called ugly,

And make it theirs to live with.

Not tolerable,

Not livable,

But theirs, so no one can take it from them again.

We’re trained to think that we should love every part of us or our bodies.. but that’s so hard! Especially when people have been bullying or insulting us for years prior to that- so we unintentially all link that together.worst even, think it’s normal because of all we see on TV.

If it’s too hard to like anything,? Neutral is fine too!

Hi, Kristina! Yeah, we think the bullying and self-hate is normal, that it can all happen with the blink of an eye, like in the movies. But in reality, it’s a day by day choice. I’m about halfway to accepting myself lol! But even if someone gets to neutral, that’s just as good.
